Name: Joanne Silver
Who did you study with? Dana Flynn and Jasmine Tarkeshi at Laughing Lotus. I've also done my restorative training with Judith Hansen Lasater and pre-natal training with Mary Barnes.
How long have you been teaching? 7 1/2 years.
What other jobs have you had? I used to work in International Education, coordinating study abroad programs for a number of different colleges. I've worked in a Montessori school, had way too many temp jobs and, in conjunction with teaching yoga, work as a reflexologist and reiki practitioner.
Favorite place that you have traveled to? It's hard to name my favorite, but probably Australia. I spent almost five months backpacking around New Zealand, Australia and Indonesia after college.
List 3 words your students would use to describe your classes: nurturing, flowing and balancing
How does your own practice influence your daily life? In many ways. My physical tendency is to be really tight. Without the asana practice, I would not feel as comfortable in my body. The physical practice makes me feel strong and flexible.
I try to carry the spiritual elements of yoga into my daily life by being more present with myself and with others. Lately, I've been using pranayama when I've had difficulty sleeping and mantra to still my mind and to affect positive changes in my life.
Favorite asana? Uttitah Trikonasana
Who is a teacher who inspires you? Judith Hansen Lasater
